We can look back at the 2018 National League Championship Series as this test kitchen for winning in the modern baseball postseason.
There was a Brewers starting pitcher who pitched to one batter; pinch-hitters from both teams in the middle innings; a record number of relief changes (and that even was before Game 7); the Dodgers’ closer used in the seventh and eighth inning of Game 7; followed up by the Dodgers’ ace starter to close out the ninth; players playing infield and outfield in the same game; and the Brewers’ Game 7 starter pulled after two innings, the manager gambling that his shutdown reliever could keep the game close in innings 3-5 (instead of saving the reliever for later, in case the game was out of hand at that point).
