JUPITER, Fla. • Last season, only five men started 110 or more games at catcher in the National League. Four are on NL Central teams for 2019.
The Cubs' Willson Contreras led the way with 123 starts, though he led only because of the accidental injury to Yadier Molina, which put him on the disabled list. The Cardinals' Molina started 120 games overall. Third was the Reds' Tucker Barnhart (113 starts), followed by J.T. Realmuto of the Marlins (and now the Phillies) with 111. And the fifth catcher was the Dodgers' Yasmani Grandal (110), who is now with Milwaukee.
