I became a sports columnist at The Denver Post in the summer of 2013, which also was Nolan Arenado’s first summer in Denver. After years of covering only the NBA, I’d finally get a chance to write about my favorite sport, be around my favorite sport and soak up everything that made baseball baseball.
Except that the local team stunk.
From 2011-2015, the Rockies averaged 69 wins. But there was this Arenado kid. At first, I wondered if I was maybe getting too ahead of myself. Most infielders in the majors make impressive plays during the course of a year.
