Hicks didn't light up the radar gun Tuesday — at least not more than he usually does. His fastest pitch came at 101.6 mph: nowhere near the 105 mph sinker he threw May 20 against the Phillies.
That didn't stop the 21-year-old from pitching effectively.
In one of his best outings of the year, the right-hander hurled two perfect innings with four strikeouts in a 5-2 Cardinals loss. The game marks the first time this season he's had back-to-back games with more than three strikeouts. He needed just 19 pitches and threw 15 strikes.
