NEW YORK • A favorite to win the Gold Glove in right field, Cardinals outfielder Jason Heyward was unanimously voted the best defensive player at his position by the annual Fielding Bible Awards.
The list, released Sunday evening, attempts to identify the best fielder at every position in the majors and one multiple-position standout while relying heavily on new metrics. Heyward received a first-place vote from all 12 members of the awards' committee and scored a perfect 120.
This is second consecutive Fielding Bible Award.
From the release, quoting Fielding Bible founder and author John Dewan:
Heyward now has six straight years of double-digit Defensive Runs Saved and three Fielding Bible Awards.
