Being Bodhi J. “Bo” Hart was a good thing for the Cardinals in 2003 when Edmonds was their center fielder. Called up in mid-June from Class AAA Memphis at age 26, the second baseman hit .489 for his first nine games, including two four-hit games and three more of three hits. After 15 games, his OPS was 1.040 and the Post-Dispatch, in its unbridled enthusiasm, printed a faux Hall of Fame plaque of Hart.
Replacing injured Fernando Vina, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Hart would wind up hitting .277, with promise that he would be a regular in 2004. But he wasn’t.
