Herzog in joking mood as he recovers from stroke

One day after suffering a minor stroke on a hot day Monday at his charity golf tournament, Cardinals Hall of Fame manager Whitey Herzog was at home in Sunset Hills. Two days after the episode, he was at a hospital, taking tests — to show that he still could drive, that his ears and eyes were OK, etc.

“I didn’t know that you needed to go to school when you have a stroke,” Herzog joked Wednesday night as he watched baseball at home. “I scared everybody. My phone’s been ringing off the hook. (Bruce) Sutter called. (George) Brett called.
