PITTSBURGH • Jeremy Hazelbaker, who got his first major-league hit, a pinch hit double on Tuesday, earned his first major-league start Wednesday night when Cardinals manager Mike Matheny wrote him in as the center fielder, hitting eighth, with cleanup man Randal Grichuk sitting down after starting the season one for nine with five strikeouts. Hazelbacker is a lefthanded hitter and Grichuk righthanded.
Brandon Moss, who had a double on Tuesday, will take over as the No. 4 hitter behind Matt Holliday. Moss again will play first base and Holliday in left field as righthander Mike Leake makes his first start as a Cardinals pitcher.
