PHILADELPHIA • The Cardinals, stopped on Saturday night in their bid to set a major league record for consecutive multi-homer games at 10, tied a different home run mark on Sunday.
Jeremy Hazelbaker capped a four-run eighth inning with a two-run pinch homer, his fourth as a pinch hitter this season and the Cardinals’ 14th pinch home run of the season, equaling both the 2001 San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks for the major-league record.
Earlier in the inning, Jedd Gyorko walloped his 20th homer of the season and 13th since July 18 when he connected for a two-run homer off Frank Herrman, who also surrendered Hazelbaker’s.
