JUPITER, Fla. • Cardinals righthander Mitch Harris, after missing all of the season following elbow surgery, made his spring training debut Tuesday in what could be termed a qualified success.
After the former Navy lieutenant fanned the first hitter he faced, Harris issued a walk and a bloop single before allowing a two-run double by Miami’s Moises Sierra. But Harris prevented further damage with a popup and groundout as the Cardinals continued to lead the Marlins 4-2.
FLAHERTY DEFENDS THE SHUTOUT
Rookie Jack Flaherty followed three scoreless innings by Adam Wainwright and one by Jonathan Broxton with two spotless frames of his own against the Miami Marlins Tuesday as the Cardinals maintained a 4-0 lead.
