CINCINNATI • In the latter innings of Sunday's game against the Cubs, when the Cardinals had a chance and the Cubs had an answer, Joe Maddon elected to walk a righthanded batter and load the bases to face Matt Carpenter with a lefty.
I found this move interesting, curious, in no small part because of the seasons and swings the two players have had this summer.
More than a few folks on Twitter pointed out the swings from that afternoon.
Carpenter, on his way to a four-strikeout game, has been dealing with a limiting shoulder.
