Randal Grichuk and Stephen Piscotty — friends, spring training roommates and fellow Cardinals outfielders — had a strong inkling that one or both would be traded this off-season.
“Yeah, most definitely,” said Grichuk the other day at the Cardinals’ Winter Warm-Up. “We’ve got 37 outfielders between Double-A, Triple-A and the big leagues. We knew there would be a possibility.”
Piscotty was dealt to Oakland, near his hometown, for two minor league infielders. Grichuk remained.
“Obviously, we’re close and kept in touch,” said Grichuk. “I’m happy for him and it’s good for him to be back home with his family.
