MILWAUKEE • Randal Grichuk, hitting safely in his fifth straight game since being brought back from Memphis, singled under the diving attempt of Milwaukee first baseman Chris Carter to score Stephen Piscotty as the Cardinals stretched their lead to 2-0 in the third inning on Saturday.
Piscotty had tripled with one out, the drive sailing over the outstretched glove of leaping second baseman Scooter Gennett and sailing nearly all the way to the right-center-field wall.
A potential inning-ending double play off the bat of Jhonny Peralta was overturned by a Cardinals challenge when the umpires’ review showed that second baseman Gennett was straddling the bag.
