The Cardinals didn't acquire Brandon Moss to replace the injured Matt Holliday.
General manager John Mozeliak was already looking to upgrade over left-hand hitting first baseman Dan Johnson and gain some additional outfield protection. When Holliday aggravated his quadriceps muscle strain, the second half of that equation became more important.
But the job of replacing Holliday for the next several weeks largely falls to rookie Stephen Piscotty. And his first two weeks on the job could not have gone better.
After looking overmatched in his first major league at bat -- an ugly strikeout -- Piscotty settled down to go 14 for 34 with four doubles and five RBIs.
