The money just keeps piling up for the Cardinals. Imagine poor Fredbird laboring in the bowels of Busch Stadium, pushing wheelbarrows of cash to the vault day after day while struggling to keep pace.
Such is life for Bill DeWitt Jr. and his ownership group. Fredbird doesn’t actually have to handle money — thanks to the miracle of electronic banking — but you get the point.
The Cardinals rank second in average attendance this season, drawing more than 43,000 fans a game. Overall revenue is pushing $300 million, according to a Forbes Magazine estimate this spring, with operating revenue exceeding $70 million.
