Dave Dombrowski must hate the St. Louis Cardinals. OK, maybe hate is a strong word, but he has not-so-fond memories of them in postseason play.
As general manager of the Detroit Tigers, he did everything but win a World Series. He furthered his reputation as one of the elite executives in the league while rebuilding that baseball operation.
When he arrived in Motown in 2002, the Tigers had suffered eight consecutive losing seasons. The team bottomed out in 2003, losing 119 times.
Dombrowski rebuilt the team and reached the playoffs five times in 14 years.
