Baseball owners and players finally began negotiating for real Tuesday. It was about time, no?
The new collective bargaining agreement has been sitting there all along, just waiting to be ironed out. There was never a great philosophical divide between the two sides.
The players didn’t seek a radically different CBA, they just sought to strengthen their positions in some key areas.
The owners weren’t seeking huge concessions, they just wanted to maintain the status quo that served them very well through the term of the previous deal.
This was pretty routine stuff as labor talks go.
