What sold the Cardinals on first-round draft pick Nolan Gorman was pretty basic.
As you might have noticed this season, the Cardinals could use some more guys who can hit the ball hard.
Gorman, a lefthanded hitting third baseman from O’Connor High School in Phoenix, went to the Cardinals at No. 19 . Among his many amateur credits: winning the Home Run Derby at the Under Armour All-American Game last summer.
He also crushed a ball onto the Home Run Deck at Petco Park during the 2017 Perfect Game All-American Classic in San Diego.
“Winning home run derbies kind of showed that I could probably hit the ball out of any park,” Gorman said in a conference call with reporters.
