The Cardinals selected Plummer out of a Michigan high school with the 23rd overall pick in the 2015 draft and signaled a subtle shift for the team in the draft. After several years of college pitchers and players who fast-tracked their way to the majors, the Cardinals were going to give younger, untapped talent time to arrive. After three seasons, two wrist operations and more than a year lost to a series of injuries, Plummer is a 21-year-old regular rising from low Class A Peoria. That high-ceiling patience has been tested.
“The biggest thing for me was going to the park and just seeing the game being played, knowing that’s where I wanted to be and I had this lengthy recovery ahead,” said Plummer this past week.
