Goold: As market starts to move, Cardinals have decisions to make now

ST. LOUIS • With players yet to sign and a deadline arriving, the Cardinals had reason to circle back to Scott Boras and his office this week for a conversation about an outfielder.

Including Marcell Ozuna, one of Boras’ clients, the Cardinals have three more players eligible for arbitration this offseason and Friday signals the first significant deadline of the arbitration process. By Friday afternoon, teams and their arbitration-eligible players must exchange salary figures for an arbitration hearing. The past two seasons the Cardinals have adopted a “file-and-trial” approach to arbitration — meaning, if they do not come to an agreement before Friday’s deadline they are going to a hearing.
