Gonzales will miss three weeks with impingment

ST. LOUIS • A return of soreness and irritation in his left shoulder brought Marco Gonzales back to St. Louis for a battery of exams Tuesday that revealed the pitcher was not dealing with any structural issues in his pitching arm but still would need to miss time.

Gonzales has an impingement and the related inflammation in his left shoulder and could miss as much as three weeks, general manager John Mozeliak said.

The exams in St. Louis on Tuesday did not reveal any deeper injury.

The lefty has been prescribed rest; he will also receive an anti-inflammation shot within the next couple days.
