Cardinals lefthander Marco Gonzales, besides setting down the first six Milwaukee hitters he faced Tuesday night, showed he hadn’t lost his ability to swing the bat since he last appeared in a Cardinals uniform in 2015.
Gonzales, who had Tommy John elbow surgery and missed all of last season, singled in the second inning for his fourth hit in 11 career at-bats. That sent Greg Garcia to second and Matt Carpenter, with his second hit, a single, sent Garcia home with the second run as the Cardinals pulled farther ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium.
But Keon Broxton cut that lead in half with his eighth home run to leadoff the Milwaukee third.
