Wainwright, who had a hamstring strain, has been pronounced fit and he will start Thursday’s series finale. Ponce de Leon can’t be of much help for five days, so he likely will return to Memphis again, waiting for his next recall. But, if so, he will have departed having made two starts this month and one in April for the Cardinals, allowing a total of just six hits and two runs over 15 innings, striking out 16.
The difference for Ponce de Leon on Wednesday was that he was much more efficient, walking just one after passing seven over nine innings in his first two starts this season.
