The newest Cardinal, longtime Arizona star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, said Friday during a press conference what Cardinals many fans would hope to hear.
“I don’t know of a player in baseball who doesn’t want to play here,” said Goldschmidt before a packed house of media at Busch Stadium. “There’s certain organizations that are just known for greatness and this is one of them.”
Goldschmidt, a six-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove winner, was acquired on Wednesday for righthander Luke Weaver, catcher Carson Kelly, minor league infielder Andy Young and a high 2019 draft choice.
“You come in here as a player,” Goldschmidt said “and the first thing that sticks out is the atmosphere here.
