SAN FRANCISCO – Shortly before leaving Coors Field on Sunday afternoon for a flight west and another series for the Cardinals to spend searching for some semblance of consistent offense, Matt Carpenter sat in a room and, via Zoom, offered a candid assessment of the lineup.
“Listen …,” he began.
He talked about how the trends weren’t going to evaporate with one game or one hit, that one hitter trying to break an entire team from a “funk” would be “detrimental,” and that, yes, he and others were frustrated by not having an answer.
Less than 24 hours he amplified his words with his swing.
