ST. LOUIS • Greg Garcia hit his first career home run for the St. Louis Cardinals in the eighth inning to tie the Cubs 2-2.
Garcia was pinch hitting for Kevin Siegrist, who came into relieve Cardinals starter John Lackey in the eighth. Garcia, who was recently called up to St. Louis from Class AAA Memphis, took reliever Pedro Strop's pitch 408 feet to center field.
This season, Garcia hit .313 with the Redbirds and didn't hit any home runs. The homer was the first by a Cardinal pinch hitter this season.
