NEW YORK • After lashing the New York Mets for 19 runs and two drubbings the previous two nights at Citi Field, the Cardinals' lineup came up empty against Mets starter Jacob deGrom.
That's not to say the team did.
Jaime Garcia, in his return to the rotation, handled seven strong innings. He threw 102 pitches and he kept the Cardinals in the game until the Mets extended their lead at the expense of the Cardinals' bullpen. The Mets won, 5-0, and only two of the runs came against Garcia. The Cardinals lefty, in his first start since shoulder surgery, should an effectiveness with flashes of wildness.
