WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.• Singles by Matt Adams and Greg Garcia, sandwiched around a stolen base by pinch runner Harrison Bader restored a two-run lead to the Cardinals at 3-1 in the seventh inning Friday in an exhibition with the Washington Nationals.
Adams, who played the first five innings in left field without even touching the ball, beat out an infield hit to open the inning and was run for by Bader. Garcia, hitting .359 at game time, looped a single to right to score Bader.

After being no-hit for five innings Friday, the Cardinals broke through in the sixth, initially with a windblown, bloop single by Carson Kelly and then a run-scoring triple past first by Dexter Fowler off Washington righthander Koda Glover.
