ANAHEIM, Calif. • What it took the Cardinals a series of hits to do in the second inning, C.J. Cron cut in half with one swing.
Cron, the Angels first baseman who shares time at that position with Albert Pujols, clubbed a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to score Pujols and halve the Cardinals' lead. The Cardinals have already chased the Angels' starter Matt Shoemaker from the game, though they did so a few innings after building their part of a 4-2 lead.
The Cardinals used a chain of baserunners to score four runs in the second.
