A .600 batting average and a .733 onbase percentage weren't enough to preserve a roster spot for Cardinals utility infielder Greg Garcia. He was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Monday when the club activated shortstop Ruben Tejada from the disabled list.
Tejada suffered a left quadriceps strain on March 31. He had been signed as a free agent on March 19, after the New York Mets released him, to help fill the void created when shortstop Jhonny Peralta underwent surgery to repair a thumb ligament.
Tejada played three rehab games for Class AA Springfield on Thursday through Saturday and went 3 for 9 with a double.
