ST. LOUIS -- After spending days defending their decision to give John Gant -- not rising prospect Dakota Hudson -- first dibs at serving as a stopgap in Michael Wacha's absence, the Cardinals watched as Gant provided all the necessary affirmation.
Gant may not have been the glitzy choice to step into the rotation. But he proved to be the right one. With seven scoreless innings on Monday, Gant helped lift the Cardinals to a 4-0 win that snapped the Indians' seven-game winning streak and secured the franchise's 10,000th victory as a member of the National League.
