PITTSBURGH -- In large part, the conversation surrounding the Cardinals' impending rotation logjam does not include John Gant. But the versatile righty made another case to remain in the Cardinals' pitching picture, in some role, on Friday night at PNC Park.
Though he was tagged with the 8-1 loss to the Pirates, Gant breezed through two turns of the order before Pittsburgh broke through in the middle innings. The Cardinals mustered no support against Joe Musgrove, who twirled seven shutout frames in his season debut. Their run came on a Tommy Pham homer off of Michael Feliz in the eighth.
