PITTSBURGH • Here is the box score of the Cardinals’ season-opening series:
Days spent in Pittsburgh: 6. Off days: 3. Games played: 3. Games won: 0.
The Cardinals dropped a three-game series at PNC Park for the first time since Sept. 12-14, 2008 as they lost the series finale to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1 on Wednesday night. They went fairly meekly, getting only four hits, with one of them rookie Jeremy Hazelbaker’s first home run, off Pittsburgh starter Juan Nicasio, and four relievers.
That total was one more than the number of errors the Cardinals committed, two of them by second baseman Kolten Wong, who led the club in miscues in spring training.
