Batting leadoff for the first time this season, Tommy Pham drew a walk from Reds starter Brandon Finnegan to start the bottom of the first.
He didn't need a hit from any other Cardinals batters to score the game's first run. He did it with his legs.
Pham tagged up and barely beat a throw from Reds center fielder Patrick Kivlehan to second base after Randal Grichuk flew out to Kivlehan. He then stole third during Stephen Piscotty's ensuing at bat. Piscotty advanced to first on a ball for that snuck past catcher Devin Mesoraco, which gifted Pham home plate.
