Matheny addresses Peralta's departure, Carpenter's improvement
In his pregame press conference, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny complimented Jhonny Peralta, whom the team designated for assignment earlier in the day to make room for Kolten Wong's return from the disabled list.
Matheny described Peralta as "one of those guys that didn’t say a whole lot but just in his quiet way was an impactful player for this club."
Peralta is currently on waivers and will most likely be released as a free agent.
This is the second time in ten days that the Cardinals have parted with a veteran in an attempt to shake things up.
