Adam Wainwright pitched seven impressive innings and Paul DeJong gave the Cardinals the lead with a clutch solo homer in the seventh. All the team needed was two scoreless innings from its late-inning relievers Trevor Rosenthal and Seung-Hwan Oh to seal a win.
The lead didn't survive the eighth. The Cardinals are very familiar with the man who tied it.
With two outs, David Freese hit a single through the gap into right field to score Adam Frazier and tie the game at 3-3.
After striking out pinch hitter Elias Diaz, Rosenthal allowed a single to Frazier and then walked Josh Harrison.
