Game blog: Cards' homer hurricane floods Giants

Cardinals righthander Michael Wacha was headed for his seventh straight loss, which was Kip Wells territory nine years ago, until a hurricane of home runs hit Busch Stadium in the fifth and sixth innings Saturday night.

San Francisco righthander Jeff Samardzija was coasting with a 4-0 lead into the fifth when Brandon Moss hit his club-high 11th homer to break up the shutout. Before the inning was over, Jeremy Hazelbaker’s two-out pinch single and Matt Carpenter’s double kept the inning alive for rookie Aledmys Diaz to drill a 3-0 pitch off the left-field foul pole and the game suddenly was tied at 4-4.
