Back and forth we go.
Keeping with the theme of the game so far, the Cardinals immediately responded to the Brewers' run in the top of the fifth inning with a run of their own. It started with yet another extra base hit off the bat of Matt Carpenter.
Carpenter lined a hit to the warning track in right field to start the inning. Brewers right fielder Domingo Santana had a chance to catch the ball but couldn't secure it, and Carpenter advanced to second.
Dexter Fowler then hit another ball at Santana, who made his second blunder of the inning by trying to throw out Carpenter at home.
