Fowler shows foresight, lifts RBI single for 1st hit

MILWAUKEE -- It's not quite Babe Ruth calling his shot in the 1932 World Series, but Dexter Fowler will take it.

The Cardinals' leadoff man recorded his first hit of the season Monday, dropping a bloop single into shallow center to drive in Jedd Gyorko to give St. Louis a 2-1 lead.

Fowler had gone 0-for-13 with six strikeouts through the Cardinals' first three games, but he was feeling confident Monday morning that the streak would end.

Fowler extended his slump to 14 at-bats with a flyout to right in the first inning on Monday, but after finally reaching base, his teammates marked the occasion by retrieving the ball to mark the occasion.
