CINCINNATI -- Over his first week-plus as the Cardinals interim manager, Mike Shildt has shown his commitment to struggling outfielder Dexter Fowler.
His lineup cards have featured Fowler all but once since Shildt took over for Mike Matheny. He believes showing faith in Fowler, who was reduced to a part-time role under Matheny despite his $82.5 million contract, would be the first step toward turning Fowler's season around.
The results have been mixed, with Fowler providing only flashes of his former self in seven starts back in his old everyday role.
