Cardinals outfielder Dexter Fowler sat again Sunday. He has started just four games in the past 11 days, and he won’t be playing again until at least Thursday in San Francisco. On Monday, Fowler will begin a three-day paternity leave for the birth of his second child, which is coming about a week early.
Tyler O’Neill, who had his 19th homer on Sunday at Iowa, will be recalled from Memphis, where he was hitting .304 with 48 runs batted in. He had three homers and batted .237 in two earlier trials here.
Manager Mike Matheny said that with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the next opponents, set to start two lefthanded pitchers, the righthanded O’Neill might get a shot but noted that Harrison Bader, who has had most of the playing time in right field lately, has hit lefthanders well.
