BALTIMORE • The roster change of note leading into this three-game interleague series at the founding father of the retro-ballpark craze was made just for numbers.
It's more about stitches than options.
Brett Cecil, the Cardinals' lefty reliever, has traded in his No. 21 for No. 27, the number that he wore in Toronto and the number suddenly vacated by veteran Jhonny Peralta's release. Cecil will begin wearing the new number Friday night as the Cardinals open a visit to Baltimore. No other move was made to, say, fortify the bench or add a bat for the DH role now available to the Cardinals in the American League city.
