Fowler feels shift to right field could prolong his career, save his legs

JUPITER, Fla. • It has been about four months since Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak flew to Las Vegas to take Dexter Fowler to dinner and sell him on shifting from center to right field.

It didn't take that long to digest the idea.

In his first public comments since the Cardinals confirmed that Fowler would move to a corner outfield spot, Fowler said the idea of moving from the only position he's known could keep his career going a few more years. The Cardinals' switch-hitting outfielder said he snacked on that idea during dinner, and by the end of it was comfortable with the move.
