Dexter Fowler had gotten off to a slow start this season, but after hitting a triple last night it appears he may have found some more momentum Wednesday.
Fowler launched his first home run of the season into the right field bullpen to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead with one out in the bottom of the third inning. It was the fourth home run given up by Pirates starter Gerrit Cole already this season and traveled an estimated 401 feet.
There was nothing else doing for St. Louis in the inning. Michael Wacha and Matt Carpenter struck out, while Greg Garcia lined out to center field Andrew McCutchen, whose defense has been a boon for the Pirates in center field following the suspension on Starling Marte.
