Four Missouri baseball players will forgo their final year of NCAA eligibility and turn professional. Juniors Michael Plassmeyer, Bryce Montes de Oca, Giovanni Lopez and Brian Sharp were all selected in the 2018 MLB Draft and told the Post-Dispatch they intend to sign professional contracts.
Major league teams can draft college players who have either completed their junior years at a four-year institution or are 21 years old. Teams can also pick players from high schools or junior colleges.
Drafted players do not have to sign a professional contract. If a player chooses not to sign, teams can draft them in future years they are eligible.
