Former Cardinals 3B Rolen hopes for another Hall of Fame jump; Buehrle on ballot for first time

Except for their National Baseball Hall of Fame inductions being postponed a year because of the coronavirus pandemic, the last year was a very good year for former Cardinals.

After a wait of some 20 years, longtime Cards backstop Ted Simmons became the 19th catcher honored as a Hall of Famer when he was selected by the Hall of Fame’s Modern Baseball Era committee. Right fielder Larry Walker, who finished his illustrious career with the Cardinals in 2005, was elected to the Hall in his 10th and final year on the writers’ ballot.

Former third baseman Scott Rolen turns up as the Cardinals’ highlighter on the 2021 ballot released Monday by the Hall.
