About a dozen players have participated both in the Little League World Series and major league World Series but only one of them, former Cardinals pitcher Jason Marquis, also has competed in the World Baseball Classic with Israel’s national team.
At nearly 38 years of age, the Jewish righthander was the ace of the Israeli team in 2017 when that club won four of six games it played in the tournament, beating the likes of Cuba, South Korea and the Netherlands along the way as it played in South Korea and Japan.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the next WBC will be pushed back from 2021 to 2022 but Marquis, now 42, says he’s willing and able.
