The Cardinals have made a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates to acquire left-handed starting pitcher Jose Quintana. Here are five facts about the new starting pitcher for the Cards:
1.) The 10-year MLB veteran signed a one-year, $2 million dollar contract with the Pirates in the offseason after bouncing between teams in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. While not appearing primarily as a starter since 2019, working in only 73 innings combined those seasons, Quintana has rediscovered his form as a Pirate. He had a 3.50 ERA in 20 starts.
2.) In July 2020, while a member of the Chicago Cubs, Quintana had surgery on his left thumb, his pitching hand, to repair a lacerated nerve.
