JUPITER, Fla. • Their first games against teams wearing different colors will come this afternoon when the Cardinals' minor-leaguers face the Mets, but first-rounder Delvin Perez has already made some noise.
During a camp day on Thursday -- when Cardinals play Cardinals, affiliate vs. affiliate -- Perez had a three-true-outcome day while also handling shortstop well for the Cardinals' Low-A roster. Perez went one-for-two with a home run and a strikeout. He also walked once.
Perez, 18, is in his first spring training.
The Cardinals selected him in the first round of this past June's draft, and he spent all of his first professional season here in Jupiter, Fla.
