CINCINNATI — The last full month of the regular season arrives for the Cardinals with an opportune doubleheader against the division rival they’re stalking in the standings, September callups just in time to fill an expanded roster, and, true to 2021, a sizeable twist.
Persisting rain through the evening in Cincinnati forced an early postponement of Tuesday night’s Cardinals game against the Reds at Great American Ball Park and set up a split doubleheader of two seven-inning games. The day delay allows both teams to have their September reinforcements in place for the double dip. But the bloated rosters of Septembers past are gone.
